Slipway — Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the mobile game Slipway ("the app", "we", "us") handles information. The app is developed by Adrian Chiorean, an independent developer publishing as Joybloom Games, who is the controller of the personal data processed under this policy (contact: hello@joybloomgames.com).
Summary
- Slipway is a puzzle game that works offline. There is no sign-up and we do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, photos or any other personal information.
- Only if you allow it, the app sends anonymous gameplay statistics to our analytics provider (section 3) and takes part in the online leaderboards under a nickname the game generates for you, with your country and your points (section 4). You can turn each off at any time in Settings → Anonymous stats and Settings → Leaderboards (which can also delete your leaderboard data).
- The app shows ads provided by Google AdMob. The Google Mobile Ads SDK collects your device's advertising identifier, device data (such as model, operating system and IP address) and your interactions with ads, in order to show ads and measure them (section 2). Ads are personalised only with your consent (in the EEA, UK and Switzerland via the consent form shown in the game; on iPhone via Apple's tracking permission). You can refuse or change your choice in the game (Settings → Privacy Options) and in your phone's settings.
- In-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see your payment details.
1. Data stored on your device
The app saves the following on your device only, so the game works offline:
- your progress (current level), number of hints, and whether you bought "Remove Ads";
- your settings (music, sound effects, volumes, vibration, anonymous stats on/off);
- your best stars per level, how many levels you completed today and your daily streak;
- your achievements, points and the counters behind them, bonus levels played, and your generated nickname (stored as three numbers) and leaderboard setting;
- when the last ad was shown (to limit how often ads appear).
Apart from the optional statistics (section 3) and leaderboards (section 4), this data never leaves your device through us. Deleting the app deletes it. Purchases of "Remove Ads" can be restored from the store with Settings → Restore Purchases.
2. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The app is free and is supported by ads from Google AdMob (Google LLC / Google Ireland Limited). The ads are requested and displayed by the Google Mobile Ads SDK, which runs inside the app and sends data directly from your device to Google; we do not receive this data.
What data. The SDK collects:
- advertising identifiers: the Advertising ID and app set ID (Android); on iPhone the IDFA, only if you allow tracking, and the vendor identifier (IDFV);
- device data: IP address and the approximate location derived from it, device model, operating system and version, language, screen and network information, app name and version;
- ad interactions: which ads were requested, shown, watched to the end or tapped;
- diagnostic data of the SDK (crash and performance logs).
Why. To choose and display ads, to measure them (impressions, clicks, and the revenue of each ad, which AdMob reports to the app without identifying you), to limit how often the same ad is shown, and to detect fraud and abuse. Ads are personalised (chosen using your identifiers and activity in other apps and websites) only if you consent; otherwise Google shows non-personalised ads, which are based only on context such as the app itself and your approximate location, and still uses the identifiers for frequency capping, measurement and fraud prevention.

How to refuse or change your choice:
Consent form in the game (EEA, UK and Switzerland). On first launch, before any ad is requested, the app shows Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) consent form, which lets you accept or refuse personalised ads and the use of your data by Google and its ad partners. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy Options. If you refuse, ads are still shown but they are non-personalised (or limited ads).
App Tracking Transparency (iOS). On iPhone the app asks for permission to track your activity across other companies' apps and websites. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", the IDFA is not shared and ads are not personalised using it. You can change this later in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Android. You can reset or delete your Advertising ID in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads (the exact menu depends on the phone). With the Advertising ID deleted, it can no longer be used to personalise ads. Outside the EEA, UK and Switzerland the in-game consent form is not shown, and Google may personalise ads using the Advertising ID unless you delete it there.
Rewarded ads (for example "Watch ad: +1 heart" or a free hint) are always optional.
3. Anonymous gameplay statistics (optional, PostHog)
When the app starts for the first time it asks whether you want to share anonymous gameplay statistics. Nothing is sent unless you choose Allow. If you allow it, the app sends events such as: a level was started, completed, failed, restarted or left; time spent, mistakes, hints and stars; combos; zoom gestures; settings toggled; ads offered, watched or failed (and the estimated ad revenue reported by AdMob); shop opened and purchases started, completed or failed (product and price). Each event carries: a random identifier created on your device (not linked to you, your device's advertising ID or any account), the platform, app version, phone model, current level, whether Remove Ads was bought, and a session id.
We do not send your name, e-mail, contacts, precise or approximate location, advertising ID or any content from your phone; IP-based location lookup is disabled. The data is processed by PostHog (PostHog Inc., EU Cloud, servers in Frankfurt, Germany; posthog.com/privacy) on our behalf, only to understand which levels are too hard and how the game is used, and is kept for at most 12 months. It is not shared with Google AdMob or any other advertiser and is not used to choose or personalise ads. This processing is based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in Settings → Anonymous stats.
Events are kept on the device until they can be sent (for example while you are offline). If you turn Settings → Anonymous stats off, sending stops immediately and events not yet sent are deleted. Because the identifier is random and stored only in the app, deleting the app also cuts the link to past events. To ask for deletion of data already sent, e-mail us (section 9) with the Stats ID shown at the bottom of Settings; we will delete all events of that identifier.
4. Leaderboards and achievements (optional, Supabase)
Achievements and points always work on your device, also offline. The online leaderboards (world and your country, this week and all time) are optional. They are on only if you turned them on, or, if you never changed the setting, if you allowed the anonymous statistics in the first-launch dialog (which says so). Otherwise nothing described in this section is sent.
What data. When the leaderboards are on, the app signs in anonymously to our backend (no e-mail, no password, no phone number) and sends:
- a random account identifier created by the backend for this installation;
- your nickname, generated by the game from fixed word lists (an adjective, an animal and a number, for example "Brave Fox 42"); it is stored only as three numbers and you cannot type it, so it never contains your name; you can change it to another random one;
- optionally, your Google Play Games or Game Center nickname, only if you are signed in there and choose to show it ("Use my … name"); it then replaces the generated nickname on the leaderboards. It is the name you chose on that platform, so it may contain your real name: if you'd rather not show it, keep the generated nickname ("New name");
- your country, a two-letter code taken from your phone's region setting (not from your location; empty if the phone has none);
- your scores: for each level, bonus level and achievement, the points, the level number or achievement name, the date and time; and the achievements you unlocked.
Who sees what. Other players see only your nickname, country flag, points and rank. Nobody sees your account identifier or anything else.
Processor and location. The data is stored by Supabase (Supabase Inc.; database in the EU, region Central EU – Frankfurt, Germany; supabase.com/privacy) on our behalf, only to run the leaderboards and to detect cheating (for example impossible scores or too many levels per hour are refused). It is not shared with advertisers and not used for ads.
Legal basis and your choices. Your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). In Settings → Leaderboards you can turn them off at any time and choose:
- Just hide me: you no longer appear on any leaderboard and nothing more is sent; your data stays on the server (hidden) until you delete it or it expires;
- Hide and delete my data: deletes your nickname, country, scores, achievements and the anonymous account from the server (immediately, or as soon as the phone is online again).
Retention. As long as you take part; accounts with no activity for 24 months are deleted automatically. Scores are kept on your device until they can be sent (for example while offline).
5. In-app purchases
Slipway offers optional purchases ("Remove Ads" and hint packs). Payments are handled by the App Store or Google Play under their own terms and privacy policies. We receive only a confirmation that a purchase was made (product and transaction identifiers), which is used on your device to deliver the item. We do not receive your name, email or payment information.

- Google: policies.google.com/privacy
6. Children and age
Slipway is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us gameplay statistics, contact us (section 9) and we will delete them.
In the European Union, the age from which a person can give consent alone to online services (the "age of digital consent", Article 8 GDPR) is set by each country between 13 and 16; in several countries it is higher than 13 (for example 16 in Germany and the Netherlands). If you are under the age of digital consent in your country, personalised ads require the consent of your parent or guardian: do not accept personalised ads in the consent form (and on iPhone do not allow tracking) unless your parent or guardian agrees. Without that consent, choose to refuse, and only non-personalised ads will be shown. The same applies to the optional anonymous statistics (section 3) and leaderboards (section 4).
7. Your rights
If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, the GDPR (and the UK GDPR / Swiss data protection law) gives you the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: to know whether we process data about you and to get a copy of it;
- Rectification: to have inaccurate data corrected;
- Erasure ("right to be forgotten"): to have your data deleted;
- Restriction: to have the processing of your data limited, for example while a request is being checked;
- Portability: to receive the data you provided in a structured, machine-readable format, or to have it sent to another controller;
- Objection: to object to processing of your data, including at any time to processing for direct marketing;
- Withdrawal of consent at any time, without affecting processing done before the withdrawal: Settings → Privacy Options for ads, Settings → Anonymous stats for statistics, Settings → Leaderboards for the leaderboards, and on iPhone iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking;
- Complaint to a supervisory authority: you can lodge a complaint with the data protection authority of the country where you live or work or where the alleged infringement took place (in Romania: ANSPDCP, www.dataprotection.ro).
How to exercise them. The data linked to you that we process is pseudonymous: the gameplay statistics described in section 3, identified by your Stats ID, and the leaderboard data of section 4, identified by your anonymous account; each only if you allowed it. You can delete the leaderboard data yourself (Settings → Leaderboards → Hide and delete my data). For anything else, e-mail us (section 9) with your Stats ID (shown in Settings) or your current nickname and the right you want to exercise; we answer within one month. Because we know you only by these random identifiers, we cannot find your data without them. Everything else the app stores stays on your device (section 1) and you control it directly (deleting the app deletes it).
The ad data described in section 2 is collected and processed by Google, not by us; to exercise your rights over it, use the controls above or Google's tools and contact options (policies.google.com/privacy, myadcenter.google.com).
